 Welcome

We have meetings on the third Tuesday of every month.  Our group meets at the New Horizons Computer Learning Center on Beacon Parkway off Valley Avenue. Our normal room is room #9 but check the visual displays when you arrive to confirm.  Food is generally provided for each meeting.  If you plan on attending email steelcitysql@gmail.com so we can get an accurate head count to plan for food.

In an ongoing attempt to build the SQL Server Professional Community in Birmingham, we start each meeting with a 30 minute networking session.  Unless noted in the meeting notes the schedule for each meeting will be:

6:00 - 6:30 - Networking Session
6:30 - 7:30 - Presentation(s)
7:30 - 7:45 - Door prizes and Question & Answer session

Bio:

Kevin is a SQL Server expert, working exclusively with the product since version 6.5. With almost 20 years of database experience, he holds many SQL Server related certifications and is also an MCT and was a SQL Server MVP from 2007 to 2012. Kevin teaches occasionally and has been a very successful independent consultant for almost 15 years. His passion is the relational engine, especially scalability, performance analysis and tuning.

Overview:

Another in TheSQLGuru's very popular "Deep Dive" series, this time covering indexing.  You will learn about the internal structures of heaps, clustered indexes and nonclustered indexes.  We will examine included columns and covering indexes, filtered indexes, indexed views, indexing DMVs and finding the right indexes.  There are some incredibly helpful graphics as well as some nice samples to help you transition theory to practice.
